Fibromyalgia is typically diagnosed when a patient has chronic widespread pain when there isn’t an identifiable condition or cause. So what is it?
Research does confirm that it is a disorder in your “central pain processing” that causes higher than normal pain response from something that should be more tolerated. This could be genetic and/or from environmental factors and be a result of a deficiency of serotonin and noradrenergic substances, or excess amounts of glutamate to name a few. But it’s also been identified that it also could be psychological and behavioral issues at play as well.
While this might sound confusing, identifying that this may be the case for you and discussing it with one of our Chiropractors in Tacoma could help identify outside/environmental or inside/chemical issues that should be addressed while managing your fibromyalgia.
We’ve found it’s crucial for these patients to have a “multidisciplinary” team of providers to work with. Since it is typically musculoskeletal pain, having a chiropractor on your team is crucial because that is the specialty and scope of our practice, and we can help refer you out to other providers if need be.
If you or someone you know is suffering from or thinks they are, we urge you to talk with one of our chiropractors in Tacoma to discuss appropriate treatment to manage your pain. Contact Accident & Injury Chiropractic in Tacoma, WA at (253) 215-8350 today.
